Welcome to Queen Margaret University for Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management Students
Queen Margaret has a proud history of achievement and progress extending for over a century. Founded in 1875, the institution has always been driven by the highest ideals and purposes, focusing on contributing in practical ways to improving the quality of human life and serving the community.
Its staff are dedicated to delivering vocational and professional learning and specialising in research which is of value to the community and enhances people's lives.
Queen Margaret University started as The Edinburgh School of Cookery. The institution was established and became a campaigning force for better education and improved career opportunities for females with an emphasis on nutrition, diet and service. One hundred and thirty-five years later we are still focussed on providing industry-relevant education in a range of various disciplines, including international hospitality and tourism management.
As QMU has expanded internationally over the years, so has our global reach and we are privileged to be in partnership with one of the best providers of Hospitality Management education in Nepal, the Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management.
I am delighted to welcome you to QMU as students on our highly regarded degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management delivered by SMSH staff in Kathmandu, a first for both institutions.
Good luck with your studies and I look forward to seeing you in person.

Queen Margaret University has a history of achievement and progress extending for over a century. Since its establishment in 1875, it has been driven by the highest educational ideals and purposes and has shown great agility in adapting and developing. Over these years it has developed a strong reputation for enhancing quality of life in the communities it serves and addressing some of the most pressing needs of society. These values are as important to us today as they were in 1875.
In 2008, its new purpose built campus in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city, was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen. Throughout its history, the institution has had connections with royalty, but the involvement of Her Majesty's the Queen Elizabeth II ensured this historic occasion was a truly memorable one.
Today, inspired by its history and the great tradition of Scottish education, Queen Margaret University is dedicated to delivering learning, teaching and research in subjects which inform policy and practice and enhance people's lives. It has developed an international reputation for providing quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of Hospitality & Tourism, healthcare; drama and the creative industries; media, communication and sociology; and business and enterprise. Its specialist research centres have gained worldwide recognition and staff work collaboratively with local, national and international partners.
At our modern campus in Edinburgh and through our international collaborations, such as this one at Silver Mountain School of Hotel management, we have a thriving international community of students. Both institutions welcome all students from home and abroad who wish to realise their full potential.
We teach people to innovate, to question, to share knowledge, to perform, to nurture and to manage leading edge businesses in the hospitality and tourism arena. The expert knowledge developed at Queen Margaret University touches people's everyday lives. We are about more than wealth creation - our focus is on sustaining and bettering society by meeting real social needs within communities both locally and internationally.
